ICYMI: Poll Shows Legislative Democrats Out of Touch on Homelessness

SACRAMENTO, CA – A new POLITICO/UC Berkeley poll confirms what most Californians already know: Legislative Democrats are out of touch on homelessness – and voters are fed up.

Over 60 percent of voters support enforcement when homeless individuals refuse shelter, and 58 percent say homelessness is the state’s biggest failure.

Even Newsom’s former top aide gets it:

“Californians are right to be frustrated.”

     — Gov. Gavin Newsom’s former deputy chief of staff.

Cities like San Jose, Sacramento, and San Francisco have ramped up encampment sweeps.

But Democrat lawmakers in Sacramento aren’t listening.

They’re operating in an echo chamber, so disconnected from reality they keep pushing fringe ideas. Solve the housing crisis by letting students sleep in cars? Ban enforcement of camping laws altogether?

These out-of-touch proposals come from lawmakers so insulated by life in Sacramento, they’ve forgotten what everyday life looks like for middle-class Californians.

Assembly Republicans are where most Californians already are: fed up with failure and demanding real accountability. We support a balanced approach by expanding access to treatment and services while keeping our streets clean and safe for everyone.
