Assembly Republican Whip Macedo cites hospice investigation showing system “wide open” under Newsom.
SACRAMENTO — Today, the House Committee Congressman Brett Guthrie (KY-02), Chairman of the House Committee on Energy and Commerce, and Congressman John Joyce, M.D. (PA-13), Chairman of the Subcommittee on Oversight and Investigations, held a hearing titled Protecting Patients and Safeguarding Taxpayer Dollars: The Role of CMS in Combatting Medicare and Medicaid Fraud.
Assemblywoman Alexandra M. Macedo (R-Tulare) submitted a letter to the committee detailing her findings and urged them to protect the integrity of the Medicare and Medicaid systems so that they remain solvent and available for the patients who truly need them.
“Medicare and Medicaid are not bottomless pits. When fraudulent actors bill for ‘ghost patients’ or enroll healthy individuals without their consent, they deplete the very funds intended to provide high-quality care by the legitimate hospice providers for those truly in their final days. Additionally, these bad actors make it harder for families to find reputable care for their dying loved ones,” said Assemblywoman Macedo.
