ALTADENA – On Monday, March 31, Assembly Republicans toured fire-ravaged areas of Altadena to assess the damage left by the Eaton Fire and hear directly from federal and Los Angeles County officials about the response, ongoing cleanup and rebuilding efforts.
Assembly Republicans and other notable leaders who toured the area include:
Assembly Republican Leader, James Gallagher (East Nicolaus)
Assemblyman Juan Alanis (Modesto)
Assemblywoman Leticia Castillo (Riverside)
Assemblywoman Diane Dixon (Newport Beach)
Assemblyman Jeff Gonzalez (Indio)
Assemblywoman Heather Hadwick (Alturas)
Assemblyman Tom Lackey (Palmdale)
Assemblyman Tri Ta (Westminster)
Steve Crowder, Mayor of Paradise
The tour included stops at Eaton Canyon, the fire’s point of origin, a commercial district that suffered severe destruction, and a residential neighborhood still awaiting cleanup. Local leaders and fire officials spoke about the challenges facing the community as it works to recover. Paradise Mayor Steve Crowder, whose town was devastated by the 2018 Camp Fire, offered his insights and experience on rebuilding his community after wildfire.
Assemblyman James Gallagher (R-East Nicolaus), who represents Paradise—praised local community leaders and emphasized the need for action:
“Altadena is proving how resilient communities can be, but they shouldn’t have to fight through bureaucracy to rebuild their homes and businesses,” said Gallagher. “As the Assemblyman who represents Paradise, I know firsthand what it is like to endure these wildfires and how important it is to cut the red tape and let people get back on their feet faster.”
The Army Corps of Engineers, at the direction of President Trump, has moved fast, clearing 1,300 lots so the community can begin to rebuild. Recognizing the need for urgent action to both rebuild and prevent these tragedies from happening, Assembly Republicans recently introduced a package of legislation to speed fire prevention work and help communities recover.
