Assembly Republicans Respond to Newsom’s State of the State

SACRAMENTO — Assembly Republicans issued the following statements in response to Governor Gavin Newsom’s State of the State address. Statements and media clips are below.

Assemblymember Josh Hoover (R-Folsom)“Unfortunately, the governor’s picture that he painted was far rosier than things actually are here in California.

Calling California a road map for the nation despite the fact that we have the highest unemployment rate, highest poverty rate, and the nation’s highest unsheltered homeless population.

We have much more work to do, and California Republicans and Assembly Republicans are focused on getting that work done and making life better for Californians.”

Assemblymember David Tangipa (R-Clovis) “He’s looking at a drop in homelessness and bragging about it when, if you look back to when he started in office, homelessness in California was around 130,000 individuals in 2011, and now it exceeds 180,000 individuals in the state of California. So he increased homelessness and is now bragging that it has slightly decreased.

That is gaslighting beyond belief and the credit that he’s taking, he had nothing to do for. So Californians actually succeed despite the governor, not because of the governor. And this gaslighting is something that I think a lot of people are starting to wake up to, and they’re gonna see that it’s bad policy and bad leadership.”

Assemblymember Tom Lackey (R-Palmdale)“It was a very creative presentation, but California is one of the least affordable states in the nation. I hope in the months ahead we face reality and actually solve the very real, day-to-day problems Californians are experiencing.”

Assemblymember Leticia Castillo (R-Corona) “All Californians are looking for real solutions to lower their cost of living, address homelessness, and make homeownership a possibility for working families.”
