California Assembly Republican Caucus
SACRAMENTO – Today, the California State Assembly unanimously passed HR 116, a resolution condemning political violence and the assassination attempt on former President Donald Trump that took place July 13, in Butler, Pennsylvania. The resolution, coauthored by 64 members of the Assembly, was introduced by Assembly Republican Leader James Gallagher (Yuba City) and represents a strong bipartisan stand against the disturbing trend of violence in American politics.
“Violence has no place in our democracy,” said Gallagher. “This resolution reaffirms our commitment to resolving political differences through dialogue and respect, rather than through acts of violence.”
On July 13, President Trump was wounded by gunfire while addressing a crowd at a campaign rally. The attack also tragically claimed the life of Corey Comperatore, a decorated firefighter and veteran who was protecting his family, and left two other rallygoers critically injured.
HR 116 underscores the Assembly’s dedication to promoting civil discourse and condemns all forms of political violence. The resolution also acknowledges the bipartisan calls for unity from both President Trump and President Biden following the incident.
