Republicans request thorough review of state programs and ignored audit recommendations.
SACRAMENTO — This year, legislative Democrats began rolling out a new “Outcomes Review” process to examine whether state laws and programs are delivering the results promised to Californians.
In response, Assembly Republicans sent a letter to Speaker Robert Rivas requesting a serious review of several major state programs and long-ignored audit recommendations.
“Californians were promised results and accountability,” said Assemblymember Heath Flora. “If the Legislature is serious about accountability, this Outcomes Review process should focus on whether programs are actually working and whether taxpayer dollars are being used responsibly.”
CBS News recently reported that, despite billions of taxpayer dollars spent, the Legislature has ignored roughly three out of every four State Auditor recommendations.
Over 300 recommendations remain outstanding.
The letter urges the Legislature to begin by addressing these ignored audit recommendations and to review four specific bills impacting housing, public safety, veterans’ education, and water infrastructure, programs that directly affect Californians’ daily lives.
Californians deserve a government that is accountable, transparent, and focused on results. And they have waited long enough.
